Nice looking sets, Gregorio. What's your address again, I seem to have misplaced it! :D

Alex you are only like 1.5hrs away from me.
I wont tell you the direction, now you have a perimeter, so you are gonna have to work hard to find these sets. ; )

I'm going to tie a piece of pernambuco around our dog's neck for a week, and start taking him for some longer walks!

I made one guitar with a set that looks almost exactly like like gregorio's, down to the way the backs were trimmed. The stripe in the sides had a lot of run out, and when I routed the binding rabbet it blew out in one place; not chips, dust. I had to remove the top and the liner and cut the sides down about 1/4" to get back to good wood. The next time I routed it I glued a strip of paper along the edges with CA, and then used a marking gauge to scribe the sides at the height of the rout. That went OK.

The guitar ended up really nice. The customer gave me a matching set; next time I'll know...

Thanks for the heads up. I bent sides for one of my fan fret guitars the other day. Sure bent easily.

Interesting, Alan. I've never used pernambuco, but early on I had a few chips and such occur while routing binding/purfling channels. Since then I've taken to scribing all lines with my gramil before every cut. It definitely helps me get cleaner results.

I am interested in a set, or a board I could resaw into a set, if that is possible.
I don't care if it's vertical grain, and I don't need a very large piece, 4/4x6"x30" is plenty.

I'd be happy to share if Paul and I end up making a deal for some of his stock.

Cheers, M

I have made just one with guitar with it, but didn't notice anything particularly difficult while bending, cutting etc it. Very hard, and dense, the tap tone is almost like metal. I have one more set, which I'm saving for something special (or a really wealthy customer...). The guitar turned out nice, it has its "own thing" compared to similar rosewood guitars that I have made. Hard to say how if the pernambuco had much to do with it though. I do remember it bled a lot of vividly orange color during bending, I have heard that it was harvested for dye manufacturing for years.

When I made that pernambuco guitar I saved all the chips and scraps I could and took them to a local shop that specializes in knitting and dying. They were pleased to get it.
