I played this in church yesterday. It was amazing. Haven’t built something for myself in a long time. Cedar on Black Acacia. It is the most responsive instrument I have ever played. Also did the binding, purfling, shell work and armrest on this on Saturday. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Alex, that looks awesome! I am just now at the neck carving stage of my first time using that contrasting lamination between the neck shaft and heel block. I love it. I hope mine turns out as nice as yours! |

I hope mine turns out as nice as yours! Thanks, Bryan! I waver back and forth with that neck. Sometimes it's ok, other times I think there's too much going on. The horizontal lamination looks nice from close up. I was careful picking out a piece of wenge, and positioning it, so that the annular rings are dead centre on the neck. I'm looking forward to seeing yours, Bryan! I know you'll nail it! Alex |

Is that your second build Alex? Hey, Danny, it's still my first. It' been on the back burner so many times that I've had to scrape it off the bottom of the pot! Alex |

Last coat, Enduro Var Silk. Leave to dry for a week or two then fit bridge and neck. Apologies for the pics. And the grain lines coinciding on the top - student jointed it, and we just stopped when the fit was perfect rather than risk another half hour..... |

Colin the 12 string looks great. I see mo issues with any join line. I love the headstock to neck transition and the picture of it. |

Looks great, Colin! I don't see any joint line problems, either. Alex |

Alex Kleon wrote: Looks great, Colin! I don't see any joint line problems, either. Alex I gotta "third" that notion. If you are talking about having two dark lines close together in part of the joint, I must say that is something I would never worry about that in my own work. In fact, I don't even mind if the lines converge slightly instead of running 100% parallel to the joint. I kind of like it when that happens because it makes it easier to find the center line in an otherwise invisible joint. Beautiful work! |

Just finished installing the binding and purfling on the current guitar. This was my first attempt at framing the back plates with mitered purfling. I'm pretty happy with how it came out particularly at the tail end. Attachment: Mitered purfling.jpg

I’m following Burton LeGeyt’s tutorial on solid linings. I’m also trying out Paulownia on his suggestion. Check out the weight difference between what I was using (white oak) and the Paulownia! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
