I'm hoping to find a nice set of Cocobolo with a sapwood line in the center of the back for a customer and would prefer to buy it from one of our fine OLF sponsors if possible.

If any of you have a nice set or two, please let me know.

Thanks and Regards,
Kevin Gallagher/Omega Guitars

Hi Kevin,

although he is not a OLF sponsor, you might want to get in touch with Grant Goltz. He sold some nice sets on the OLF swap meet this fall, I think he has a source in Nicaragua. I don’t think he has a web site and he does not post often, but here is a link to his 'swap meet table', you might be able to PM him.

I also have some nice cocobolo from Don Williams, who is no longer a sponsor, but who I’m sure you know.

Sponsor West Penn Hardwoods has some. Their catolog photo is not of the current set. Contact them and see if they have what you want.

Last time I was in Buffalo, I saw a great cache of Coco in the ZootCave. In fact, Bob had just received some incredible stuff that had been either buried or submerged for decades.

Be sure to check out the Zootman!

Be sure to call the Zootman.  He often has stuff that is not on his website.  His site is just the front door.  No telling what he has in the warehouse.

Did someone say Cocobolo?

Set 1

Set 2

Set 3

Not sure what size you are looking for Kevin, all off these should work for everything up to a D size with the exception of Set 3.  Set 3 with the checks may best be suited for an OM or similar sized shape.  I have added dims on each set.  These three sets are going for $160.00 each.

We are adding a lot of new sets on our site, (link below, click on Guitar Wood once there), please be sure to take a look.  The species listed their are pretty representative of what we have in stock, though these are certainly not all that we have available.

Happy Building,

Grant Goltz just recently received a large shipment of coco and has been offering sets on Mario's (not grumpy) forum at the weekend auctions. He goes by the name Whitespruce.

I think it is only appropriate that for my very first post on OLF that I let
you all know how excited I am to be building my first guitar - with my
son - with our instructor being Kevin Gallagher.

I'm guessing that his post is for wood for MY guitar - wooooohoooo (just
a bit excited).

I've been a lurker for a long time on this board and have enjoyed learning
so much.... and will post some photos of the build when it happens this
May.

Looking forward to being able to finally contribute something.

Paul

Welcome to OLF, Paul!  It is a great place to hang out, and learn.  Good luck on your build.   I'm sure you'll do great.
