 I just got Bosch PR20EVSK (link below) and have couple questions.http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-PR20EVSK-Ho ... 486&sr=8-2 -What is the first bit(s) or set of bits do I need? This is my only router so it needs to do everything from Binding, End graft,rosette, and other things putting my first build together. -What do you guys use for end graft jig? any recommendations would be helpful. Thank you, David |

Hi I use a 1/4 double flute router bit for a lot. I use it for endgraft. I use it for my double mortice and tenon neck joint I use it for my slotted headstocks. The key is what you use it with......I have a set of template guides and jigs that make it work with that bit. I use the endgraft/mortice jig from Chris at Luthiers tools. I also use his slotted headstock jig which is awesome. As far as routing binding/purfling, you need a good set with bearings. I have both the LMI and SM set. There are adavantages to both. The LMI set has many more bearings for more accuracy and it has a lower setting for the bearing which prevents the bearing from slipping in the purfling route if you decide to route that before the binding. The SM set by being higher is easier to route grooves in smaller wood such as headstocks. The LMI wouldn't fit well on a headstock. My 2 cents |

I use a stewmac binding step cutter and a straight cutter with a bearing at the top. I do most of mine freehand and don't have 200 jigs unlike most of the folks here. each to his/her own I guess!! |

Whatever you do, don't go buy the cheapest bits you can find, or the discount bits at a wood show. They may be carbide, but they aren't built to the same standards as bits from Whiteside, Freud, CMT, or Amana. At the woodworking school I used to teach at, we had some cheap bits that literally exploded and sent shrapnel flying around the shop. NOT FUN! |

To do most jig work, a good set of template guides is a must ... for instance, the slot head jig shown needs them ( cost may very), and a 1/4 inch downcut spiral .... 20 bucks at any BORG ... |
