Well, since Lance gave the go-ahead, I'll start. Let's get these resources going.

First up, I have to put in this killer Kinnaird masterpiece. Black Limba with Bocote bindings. I am in awe of this one.

And here's one of mine. Honduran mahogany with White Oak bindings. Almost ashamed to include it in the same post.

Please remember Lance's request to keep the verbiage to a minimum. I assume it would be perfectly fitting to the purpose of the resource if pertinant construction details are discussed.

So, Lance, you said we could "sticky" these, right? When the "official" gallery is built, this should also give a good one-shot resource to build it from.

Peter, can you briefly describe the woods for each pic for future reference? The idea is for a builders gallery to glean ideas from.

This is a good idea.
Koa is about my favorite binding so I use it a lot. I also like similar wood on similar wood so I've attached a couple like that also.
Be glad I spared you a bunch of additional koa shots.

Thanks for putting those up, Wes.

One little detail I attend to is to put tail wedge in cross-grain, so the grain in the wedge and binding run in the same direction. Seems cleaner to me somehow.

I like to think the same thing. Here is one Im working on right now.... Herringbone isnt scraped out in the pic.

Now that is slick, Lars! [:Y:] Is that even a wedge or just a well-joined end joint with purfling inlaid? Kind of a faux-wedge? I really can't tell by the pic.

Lars, that is so nice... I don't think I've seen that anywhere else... That has to go into the "Why-didn't-I-think-of-that" list!!! Very Cool!!

I love this thread its wonderfull to see the detail in peoples work.
binding a guitar is an underated art.

Lars is that just the off cut from the end of the side inlayed as wedge.
Thats a great i idea i may have to steal that for my next commision ;)

Lars, nice work!

Howard, I've often thought that since black/yellow is such a nice combination, it would work well on a guitar. Your guitar indeed proves the theory. I've got a really yellow plank of Pau Amarello (Yellowheart) I've wanted to try on a Malaysian Blackwood body. Roughly the look you've achieved there, only w/ visible pores.

Thanks Steve. The center neck laminate on that guitar in the photo is pau amarillo, a/k/a yellowheart, a/k/a Brazilian satinwood. It works very nicely.

You've given me an excuse to post the headstock of the same guitar. One of the backstrap layers is also pau amarillo:
