After a request for a bright, high tuned instrument, in a small body, this is what I have created so far. Flame maple back and sides, quilted maple neck with ebony/maple ribbons, ebony board, bridge and bindings, ebony/maple purflings, (not on yet). chrome hardware. Maple fret markers. Body is only 16" long, 12-1/4" bout, depth is 3-1/2" to 3-7/8" , sound ported (not cut in yet) , quilted maple rosette with ebony/maple ring, maple bridge plate, maple headstock overlay, solid ebony backstrip and bout wedge. Ebony bridge pins. 20" scale, 1-3/4" nut to 2-1/4" spacing. Customer asked for as much maple as he could get, even asked for maple bindings, but I decided to go with contrasting and offsetting ebony. I almost forgot the cedar top amongst all the blonde in there. This one might start to produce it's own syrup. |

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm maple syrup ![]() That's a lot of maple right there. Good thing it's easy to come by. I finished a Maple Cedar guitar this past March and I really love the sound of it. The cedar really warms it up a lot. I did a spalted maple rosette on mine so maple there too. Maple good Nehemiah, can we see some more, rosette, back maybe? You'll like the contrasting ebony binding too. |

I absolutely love maple ! ![]() I have a hugh stock ! Cedar top & maple B & Sides is a favorite. Put a bit of tint in your finish to bring out the figure. If your using lacquer ! I use a shellac base coat of Blonde & ruby,or orange, to get the grain to pop out!! Send more pixs please!! Mike |

Quilted maple neck....that's wild. To bad you couldn't get it thick enough to laminate without having to stack the heel block. It sure looks like a cool instrument. |

It is pretty much based on a terz style Verhoevenc, except that I set this up to be tuned to "A" rather than "G" as was terz tuning. 5th fret instead of 3rd. I will post more pics after the binding and M/E/M purfling goes on tomorrow I wish I had more of that quilted maple, but it came as partial payment from a customer. Too bad. Just enough for this little neck. |

I'd like to encourage everyone to follow this fine example and build as many cedar topped maple guitars as possible ![]() |

Sadly I don't have a finished cedar/maple guitar. I barely play and was given a Cedar topped/Birch B&S by a customer a couple years back. I planned on building my own sooner or later I just never got around to it ![]() If you check the link in my sig there are plenty of shots of my maple and cedar in various other stages from standing trees to finished guitars ![]() |

A few pics of this little guy after binding in ebony , purfling in M/E/M and before scraping and sanding. I think the ebony is much better looking than the maple binding the customer asked for, now he agrees. I don't tape and wick glue, this makes for a cleaner top and tighter joint in my opinion, I just glue and hold in place for a few seconds as I go along. Works well for me anyway. Now to scrape and sand out. (I just previewed the pics, sorry about the quality) |

I like the ebony binding.. Sometimes (very rarely) adding more zoot doesn't help ![]() Rod True wrote: HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!!! JASON VOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() Welcome back dude, where you been??? Time to hook up I'm still around.. Just haven't been very active online as I've been busy at the shop and working on a few unrelated things. I don't want to hijack this thread so I'll pm you. |
