Post subject: | Martin Dovetail Question |
Anyone have a picture of a Martin dovetail? Is there a mortised connection under the fingerboard as well or is the fingerboard glued to the top of the body? Thanks ![]() |

You can go on Martins website and look at a picture of a dovetail mortised neck block and a dovetail neck. On the website go to shop on line, then click on parts, this will bring you to kits, parts, accesories. Click on parts again. Scroll through to see pictures, since they do sell the parts. You will see that the fretboard is glued to the top. Chuck |

Have a look at frets.com. I think Frank has some articles on dovetails - resets and whatnot. Pat |

As with any dovetail neck. the neck is joined via a tappered and fitted for alighnment dovetail the joint happens under the 14th and 15th or 12th and 13th fret positions but the fretboard its self is a flat plane joint. The fretboard glues flat to the neck and body top just as it would on a M&T joint. |

Here are a couple of pics showing a typical dovetail neck joint. The tapered tenon on the neck fits into the mortise in the neck block and the fingerboard extension glues directly to the top. This is how Martin (and many others) have done it for 100+ years. Attachment: om281.jpg Attachment: om283.jpg
