Aside from the work that I should be doing, 2 SE117's a Panormo, and lots and lots of Telecaster bodies and necks. Starting my first electric! Can't wait.

I just strung up a BRW/adi, koa bound L-00 size bliss. I put a compound radius on the fingerboard of this one and was surprised at how much lower you can go with the action! I think I'm going to do them all that way from this point on.

Now that I am caught up, I guess I'll just stare at the walls. [headinwall] I'm entertaining the thought of getting into repair work that I am confident with. I did a lot of work to a friend's D-35 last week, which included a neck reset, neck straightening, fingerboard levelling, refret, etc and have repaired a couple of other guitars for friends lately and it's been fun.

John that is sweet dude!

Is that a one piece neck/fret board?

I've got an EIR/Cedar GA in the spray booth, the Imbuia/Cedar is in the back bracing stages, the Tassie Blackwood (Acacia for Don ;) )/Lutz is also in the back bracing stages. I've been making a few of the Karol/Wells precision router bases.

Oh and trying to keep the place clean [headinwall] [headinwall]

Thanks.

Yes it's a one piece maple neck. One piece Ash body.

Funny you should ask, I just came up from the shop. Just fitted the sides to the mold and glued the blocks on my Wedge jumbo, and did the final prep to get ready to glue the top onto my Cocobolo 000

Just finished bracing a Cedar & Aussie Blackwood classical:

and began bracing on a Curly Cedar OM - zoot from Bob C.
and bracing a flamenca blanca.... not ready for prime time as yet.

With the close to zero weather I've been working the humidifiers overtime. Have not yet braced the tops for the OM and flamenco and will wait a few days until I can get the shop stablized once again.

I've got two coming back from finish shortly and am starting a couple more. With the recession and the real jolt in high end guitar sales I am calling the next two either the "depression OM & Dred" or the "201K" Models. I'm using a little lower grade back and side set, very simple appointments, and an oil finish on the neck. Should sound and play great but be a little cheaper.

I'm working on the neck for my 4th guitar. I made a jig for rough-cutting the volute while thinning the peghead. I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out...

This AM I dealt with the mess from yesterday. I was putting a wash coat on a cutaway Mahogany L-00 I've been dinkin' around with for the last few months. While charging the core of the fad, I squeezed the bottle too hard and the nozzle popped off. Shellac sprayed all over everything, guitar included. Everything is fine now, but I will forever see the badges on the tools that were on the bench that fateful moment.

Finessing the neck. Lots of firsts on this one: soundport, cutaway, scratch-built neck, headstock back veneer, butted neck/block joint.

I finished voicing the top (I think?!) and also finished the soundport. I still have an issue with a cracked lining I'll post in another thread. Once that is solved I should be ready to glue the back to the sides

Just finished up number eight this morning. This one is for my nephew. The top is sitka spruce and the back and sides are east indian rosewood. The back of the head is a bloodwood veneer. The thing l like best about it are the bindings which are curly maple. They were tough to put in though, my thumbs hurt for days after from pressing them in to place.

The finish is my first try with Tru-Oil. As a finish, I can see that it has potential and I'm definitely willing to use it again. It feels great on the neck. To me, it doesn't seem any harder than shellac but I guess it has more resistance to water and alcohol. Overall, in my opinion it doesn't quite match the beauty of French polished shellac but I may be premature with that judgment.

It sounds good. My nephew wanted to be able to plug it in so I installed an LR Baggs I-beam.

Thanks for looking,

Pat

Pat, what sort of strap button / jack socket is that? In the photo it looks to have a sort of bronze colour. Much nicer than chrome.

Thanks for the comment Chris.

Dave, the strap button/jack socket is a bronze colour and it's just what came with the I-beam. It's what they happened to have in the store at the time I was buying. I agree, it does look nicer than chrome (which I've also gotten with an I-beam).

Not too much. I've got a guy who had some stashed and wanted a couple of guitars built with it, for him and a friend of his. This is my third BRW guitar. The last one was the Crabtree dread I posted here a while back. I'll send you a pic of this L-00 size when I get a chance to snap a few.

John,

It's good to have you drop in once in awhile. Awesome guit!

Fred, that's some gorgeous cocobolo.

Larry, love that lattice.

Terence, If you don't mind my asking, where did your guitar repair/patternmaker's vice come from? Looks like the original of the StewMac one.

I'm working on a Player's series, though I'm not sure I'll call it that. Much like yours, plain, decent woods, lower price.

Wayne, impressive jig.

Pat, Nice!

Fillipo, good to see your son in the shop again!

The back is braced. Need to clean it up a bit. The top is ready to brace, as soon as I cut the sound hole out. The sides are done. I'd post pictures, but I don't want to send Hesh to the ER with arrhythmia. Its too cold to have to go outside.

These threads are so motivating. You guys are building some great guitars! John, I love teles! Yours looks terrific! You using the traditional tele pups?

I am still poking away at the Southeast Asian RW OOO. I had hoped to get it pore filled this weekend, but I only got the neck filled. Below are a few shots from a week or so ago. Oh, my plans for MP's SJ arrived, and I ordered a 5 piece neck for it from Chris at Hanalei Moon Guitars. Hope to get that one going sometime during February.
