Although they seemed to take forever, I'm finally finishing nos. 7 & 8. (I;m a strong believer in "...first get good, then get fast." Still working on the first bit.)
Anyway, here are a few pics of the first.
It a redesigned 17" (both in shape & arching...cycloid). I tried to add an "art deco" feel with the "waterfall" pickguard, Grover Imperials, Johnny Smith style pickup (Kent Armstrong), split blocks (mop/abalone combo) & lots of purf lines. Materials are lutz (from Shane) on Euro maple, with Macassar.
Thanks for looking

Oh my! Dave that is a real stunner! What an eye you have. You struck a chord with that pickguard, but the whole thing is sublime.

The waterfall seems to blend in nicely with the rest of the curves.
Nice work, Dave!

Very Nice.

Is the recurve softer on this one? Seems like the top is more evenly domed shapped compared to the more traditional ~ shapes.

What I really like about your builds, is the overall attention to detail. The lines all look nice, the finish is excellent, nothing looks out of place. The features look appropriate on each model etc. When I look at your guitars, I never have to think of a "what if " statement. I really like the black topped guitar you built. Its so amazingly simple yet, so darn beautiful at the same time.

Thanks for all the kind words guys....heady stuff from some great builders! I'm glad to hear the pickguard "clicked".......it was kind of a "lightbulb" moment (basically, all the curves are the same one, just stetched & repositioned) after using cad to "test" probably 75 or more shapes.

Hey, Dave, I forgot to ask (on my MIMF response): What string gauge do you use on this guitar? One other thing I notice here: Thinner bridge foot overall (less footprint) than your previous blonde archtop, but still featuring those sexy flared wings on the end. Very cool. How do you think the two bridge sizes compare to each other?
It's fabulous.

got wood? here is wisconsin we got milk too. I NEED to build an archtop next. I met Ted Nugent 2 years ago, I love the sweetness of an archtop. Seeing yours is just a work of art and I bet it just plays like butter. Is that a p-90 of some sort? My next project if I can find the wood.
