I just returned from helping a few guys in FL build their guitar (1st time for 2, 2nd for 1) (that's me on the left). We had a great time and produced 4 great looking and wonderful sounding guitars.

We did this in 6 days, working 12-16 hours each day (that is why we look weary in the photo!) 2 were trimmed with rosewood, 2 with bloodwood, (3 cutaways & 1 dread), Engleman tops, Curly Maple sides, backs and necks. I precarved the necks, prebent the sides and slotted the fingerboards. Other than that it was from scratch.

I can't think of a better way to spend some vacation time. It didn't hurt that it was 80 degrees most of the week - a plus for someone from chilly Illinois.

That has obsession written all over it! Tell me you got a little time in the sun, John...

I am sure those will turn out pretty well, if they are anything like others from your instruction!

Hey John,
Welcome back. Looks like the one gentleman took your advice on the cut away for the dread.
Hope you didn't overheat down there in FL. I bet you are glad to be back were the temperature is a touch cooler.

Steve

John,
Congratulations! I remember you mentioning this class. I hope it was "uneventful".

What part of Florida? I don't think it has been in the 80's here for about 3 weeks.

Steve - it is much easier to adjust to warmth than to cold!!!

Robbie - We did break a cutaway side putting it in the mold - but that is why I take spare material! After that it was uneventful in a good way!

Chris - it was in Orlando. I didn't actually see a thermometer, but coming from 10 degrees, it sure felt like 80!

John, Hey I'm in Tampa and we have a builders club. Do you think your friends would be interested in joining in? It's free and we should be having our 2nd. meeting this month.

It sure feels nice to help others make a guitar!

Good job !
How they sound?

If those gitars were guns you'd guys look like banditos!

Thanks Mike - it is a blast teaching others to build. How did they sound? These are the best student built guitars I have helped with. The tone and volume were superb.
