Ok, Cumpiano says he doesn't glue his sides to his spanish heel and has some valid reasons. Bogdanovich and others shows in their books to glue them. idunno So who glues or doesn't glue and why? Clinton

I glue with glue applied to inside surface of side only. Reason I glue...why not, you can usually get a good tight fit with the slots in the heel block but why not take out a bit of insurance? Reason I apply only to inside of rib....to reduce risk of squeeze out around heel.

For necks slotted just for the side thickness, I don't glue the sides in the slot. This was part of the method I originally learned for setting the neck angle. I plan to switch to Romanillos-style wedged side joints soon, though.

I was wondering if anyone experienced the hydrolic lock issue when fitting sides into a slot w/ glue? I was reading an alternative way of cutting wedges out from behind the sides and then glueing them in after the sides are installed. The only caveat that I saw was glue coming out the front sides. That would be bad...... clinton

No glue needed on the outside heel join, only on the inside of the box.
