I really still need to buff out the tru-oil and touch up here and there, but I could'nt stand it any more and went ahead and put it all together. I will record something this week and post. (If I can figure it out-no promises.)

You can see No. 4 progressing on the bench as well.

I took this photo about midnight last night just before stringing up

Sitka top(french polish-thank you Mr. Payne and Mr. O'brien for your tutorial and video respectively.)
Eir back and sides
granadillo headstock, fingerboard, and bridge
rosette has mahogany, yellow cedar, walnut, and ovankol.

Stephen,

I like it. Great Job. I can't wait for the sound clip.

What did you use for the binding?

Very clean work Stephen! Did you Tru-oil the body? I'm looking forward to the sound clip.

Great looking guitar Stephen my friend!

I too really like the rosette and I also like what you did with the fret board extension and the last fret. Super clean looking work too!

Way-to-go! [:Y:] [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap]

Post subject:  Re: No. 3 is done (mostly)

Thanks everyone!

The top is French polish and the rest is Tru-oil. The bindings are also East Indian rosewood with a simple white stripe.

Getting sound recorded is no problem, getting posted on here is where I will need help. I can record and mp3 and post it on my own website to link to just like my photos. If anyone can help from there it will be appreciated. I will be out all day as I am going on a field trip to Headwaters State Park on a field trip with my second grade daughter. I will record something tonight.

Looks great Stephen, and I like the rosette and beveled radius on the end of the fingerboard. Looking forward to the sound clip. [:Y:] Hesh would probably appreciate it if you'd play the classical rendition of "Smoke On The Water".

Great job, Stephen! Really pretty guitar. I look forward to hearing a clip. Just make the recording, and post the mp3 to your site. A direct link will work fine. I just made a folder on the website, and uploaded the clip. No magic involved.

Really nice work Stephen [:Y:] Elegant and what appears to be precise workmanship throughout. I like the inlay on the headstock and how it complements the rosette and purflings. I'm anxious to hear how it sounds. It appears to be a Torres plantilla?

Thanks for all the nice words. My wife can barely keep from rolling her eyes when I am fishing for compliments the poor thing.

It is a Romanillos plantilla from the '73 guitar.

I will get to all the questions and figure out this sound clip deal later, my son MUST get on webkins world now.

Very nice guitar Stephen. I love the shape and the workmanship. The rosette is very daring. Where did you get the inspiration for that? How does it sound?

For some reason I cannot play these mp3's directly from the links. I have to save the files to the computer and then I can open them. I think this has something to do with my computer set up and not the links themselves. I did get these things to play in this fashion.

Please let me know if you cannot hear them and hopefully we can figure it out. These are as recorded on my Zoom H2 recorder with a little gain adjustment to make them louder.

Nice work Stephen!
The detail at the last fret is killer (note to self...hahaaaa! My first will never be done!)
The Sitka top is amazing - no streaking at all...master grade?
Nice job of the binding miters as well!

Post subject:  Re: No. 3 is done (mostly)

Thanks especially for the compliments on the headstock and rosette. The outer part of the headstock is bookmatched from a granadillo bridge blank. I used this to compliment the granadillo fingerboard and bridge. I wrapped the bookmatched headstock pieces around a section of the exact same lamination I used to form the rosette pieces.

I attempted to create a more traditional end grain rosette with the little sticks and then with veneer sheets. I just do not have the dexterity to do it well. I thought about this for a long time and had fun looking at rosettes here on the OLF. I decided to try a method that I have used in the past in my woodworking that uses laminations. Basically you create a lamination like the one in the image. Cut it at an angle (15 degrees is what I used) flip every other piece over and glue it all back together. I do not know how many individual parts there are but the process is pretty straight forward. I then cut the tiles at the angle necessary to yield eight sections. The tricky part was to have the angles and length correct so that the pattern stayed in the center of the circle and everything matched up. I am very happy with this rosette method and it is now my "signature" rosette.

This image shows the headstock in more detail at an earlier stage of the build and you can see the rosette lamination in the center.

All your generous comments sure are a boost!!

Thanks so much.
