G'day everyone. Thank You for very interesting forum. I am a beginner guitarbuilder, and this my first post here. I have several questions: For making of the 7-string guitar I want to use Makassar Ebony and curly Redwood... As this woods together for compatibility? What sound I can expect (approximately for tap tone, etc...)? What optimum thickness for back and sides possible to do?  Thanks. Excuse me for English, I from other country... |

Hi I have only used it once on my first and it was a great - I used German Spruce for the top so cant comment on your combination, but it gave a wonderful bass response - really pleased with teh tone, probably down to the density of the wood. Works quite well, but blunts tools VERY quiclkly which makes for plenty of sharpening practice! Not sure how to link a topic but if you search my early posts you will find some pics. |

Hi Sergy and welcome to the OLF! Curly Redwood is not a very stable wood and even though I have built with it before with no issues I would be reluctant to do so again. Thank you for answers  Filippo, I dreamt to make such guitar for a long time... I speak about Russian seven-string guitar. I have built not much, only four classical guitars (Also there were many repairs), but Makassar Ebony and curly Redwood did not use, therefore I have questions... Woodworking I done, the back is glued, processed by sandpaper. Back - 2,9 mm, sides - 2,4 mm, soundboard - 3,0 mm. What you say about thickness? |

Looks nice! The back and sides thicknesses seem very high to me, I would have probably made the sides 1.8 and the back 2.2. But the top at 3 is probably fine. |
