Has anybody built one? You know, the sound hole in the left upper bout AND with archtop style A bracing on the top? I know that a lot of offset sound hole guitars have been built. I'm more interested in hearing about the results of the A style bracing. Tacoma calls it 'Wicked Witch' bracing. |

I have been wondering the same thing, the Liutaio Mottola is one of the first sites I bookmarked getting into this, and have referred to it many times, always wondering what that guitar sounds like, or how it sounds compared to an x or ladder braced guitar. Perhaps the question will get some answers on one of the players forums like AGF. It sure looks like a nice guitar, and the Tocoma A-A is a neat idea as well. Rob |

I wondered the same thing. I recently read somewhere that A style bracing produced a stiffer, brighter top, and X style, a warmer sound. Kind of counter-intuitive, as I always think of acoustic guitars as bright and archtops as mellow and warm. I am leaning toward the offset sound hole for the archtop I am building, am and trying to think through all of the ramifications. |
