We used to have a sponsor- vendor who sold radiused dishes shaped to specific body outlines. I've searched with no luck. May have been Canadian. I have OM and would like Slope Dread Martin. This was started in my mind from the "Go-Bar" thread. I liked using spool clamps and a couple of cam clamps and the radiused body jig for top and back gluing to rims. I have the regular circular dishes in 25 and 15. Are these still available anywhere? I suppose I could get traditional 24" round dishes and bandsaw(not my most friendly tool) out my own outline. For bandsaw stuff I just "hog" along and go through several spindle sander sleeves to get to a civilized shape. I'm not very mobile right now and want to use my physically available time building guitars and not more jigs. Thanks, mt |

Hi JJ-I almost parenthetically typed " I suppose I should just call John Hall." And, by the way, since Imbuia does not get much discussion, the members would surely like your impressions on bending it when the time comes. mt |

Mike, I can cut dishes to shape on the cnc (once I had the shapes of the guitars that is!) but I think a better way to go is to cut a series of slots in your round dishes that spool clamps slide back and forth in. That way you don't need a different set of dishes for each body style, you can use the dishes you have on hand for ALL or you body styles. And the 1/4" slots should not effect the function of the dishes. Also, with the taper in depth of the guitar from front to back, the back is technically longer than the top, so that would need to be compensated for when your dishes are made to shape to ensure you have good coverage right to the edge. Anyway, most soleras are made in this fashion. Thanks Shane |
