Chris, This is typical of freshly cut Brazilian. Those light patches will oxidize to a darker orange or brick red color given time. Of course the dark areas will remain dark but the oxidizing of the light areas will present a much more uniform color in a few months. |

As Gump would say .. brazilian is like a box of chocolates .. you never know what you'll get. I have a stash of brw bridge blank sized pieces from the mid 80s ... for the most part, it all looks to be dark as its totally oxidized to a depth of 1/8 inch sometimes. However, when you cut it open, the colour inside can range anywhere from light yellow/brown, thru orange, to reddish brown to chocolate brown to almost black on a piece by piece basis ... it is what it is .. the most colourful wood in the world IMO. check out these brw pyramids ... its all there .... |

I had the same thing resawing IER. Never saw it before then so at first I thought it was my freinds thickness sander but it became apparent after much hand sanding that was not the case. Little white streaks/patches. |
