Due to some health and shop issues looking at having to close down shop. Will be selling all my tools, jigs and junk. Before do so looking to finish putting a neck on a guitar and guess will put on a stew mac pre made on one for a kid and then a box and another stew mac neck so I can have a guitar for myself as I sold or given all my guitars away to vets.

Stan, that's terrible news. You may not remember, but back in the very early days of the OLF you had an enormous influence on me, you told us how you had given guitars to Vets and their children and this made me realise that the guitars I had laying around that had been replaced by later ones could be better put to use by giving them to deserving young, less fortunate, people. You are the very definition of the 'Good Guy', one that many of us here could do no better than to model ourselves on.

Hey Stan my friend I too am very sorry to hear that you are not doing very well.

I second what Colin said and I'll add that I was always very impressed by you that you apprenticed for a real-deal Luthier and I wondered how that might work for us older dudes.... :)

When I got the opportunity to do the same I thought of you and how learning was more important to you than anyone's perceived impressions I jumped at the opportunity and again with you in mind as my positive example. Thank You!

You are my friend Stan and always will be so please let me know if there is anything that I can ever do. I think that you have my email if not it's on my site with a link below.

Hang in bro - here's wishing the best of thoughts for you Stan.

Hi there,

I have to admit I'm quite new on this forum, so I can't really say anything like the poeple above. But still feel sorry for you, it must be pretty hard to close down a place so meaningful and full of memories.

Hope you'll get better and wish you all the best.

Aerith.

That is not a pleasant prospect to walk away from what you have been doing for a lot of years. I wish you well.

Stan,

That's sad news indeed. You were one of the early mentors here when I joined. Sorry to hear your plight.

Best wishes,

Pat

Stan it sucks that you have to hang up your chisels.
Consider less time in the shop and maybe teach a few kids how to build
And most importantly how to use that gift as you have.

Very sad to hear Stan. I am sure I will be facing the same thing in the future as my COPD doesn't get better, only worse. Working with wood and finishes takes it's toll.
Good luck to you.

Thanks guys. Colin, I do remember that and was honored by you as you have been one of my building hero's.

Hesh, Thanks bro. We are never to old to learn and gain from those with the knowledge if we are willing to accept it. I highly recommend those who can see out a builder and learn. Then Give back.

Special shout out to my friend and mentor Bill Moll. Went to school at Galloup, went to college at Bourgeois with Kerry, John and others. But, went to Oxford with with Bill. What a great builder, and teacher. He may be direct and demanding, but God knows I needed it and learned. One main thing he passed on and I do here to new builders. Look at the problem and figure it out even if takes time to do so. Almost everything can be fixed and done right if not panic and figure it out. I used to make mistakes that could be fixed and then throw away in frustration. Bill is going to work with me to finish up what need to finish.

John Mayes. Bro over the last 10 years and visits you have become a great friend and mentor also. Come anytime and do some fly fishing. It is great guns now. Just landed a 5.250 lb 27 inch last week on 6x tippet. Time for you to come and do some fishing and golf.

Just for those to know I learned a lot here over the years. I hope to keep some stuff and do basic setups and some repairs. My main health thing now dealing with is a condition known as Arachnoiditis and doc's (high end ortho and neurosurgeons) "The worse case they have seen" I have had 9 back surgeries, countless myelograms and injections, internal stimulus thing and narcotic infusion pump. None worked so on high doses of meds not best for working with sharp things all the time. Hoping for the best here. The other is due to sucking agent orange during 3.5 tours in Vietnam in the 60s and 70s I already went through to prostrate thing and so little nervous as doc says he is concerned.

But I am blessed guy as I have been able to do what I wanted professionally in cop work, Marines and building guitars. And most of all family and friends

Also docs found some junk in me thought other things but now not sure and think from sucking to much Agent Orange in 3.5 tours overseas in the 60s and 70s.

So sorry to hear of your woes, Stan.
But re-reading your post title, I was encouraged by the word "probably".
Which holds out at least the hope for a future return to what you love.
I hope so!
