Post subject:  Fox Bender Aluminum Clamping Support

Re the fox bender, can any of you advise if the aluminum/steel bar that sits below the waist caul is beneficial to the bending process. In the many variations of the bender out there it seems to have been dropped. As I am remodelling my bender I would be interested to hear the pro's and con's

The bar holds the pattern in relation to the waist cawl . That is all it does.

I actually stopped using mine years ago. Instead, I mark the side at the waist location and keep it visible in the center of the waist caul travel slot.

As John said, it helps to line up at the waist, enabling you to get a matching grain pattern at the butt joint etc.

I leave the bar in place, but all it does is maintain the form alignment for me. I removed the bar springs years ago. I mark the "package" & keep the mark in the window... Like JJ said.
It's one of those "To each, his own" things.
