Well, it wasn't long ago that Glenn LaSalle put up those photos of that lovely 1920 Nettuno GC, and of course, the purfling just did me in. So I have been working on the copy, and while I still don't have the outsides ready, I've been messing with the center part. So, here's a proto of the center with some split herringbone glued on for fun. The slices need to be a bit wider, but the basic idea is there. We'll see how it looks after I finish getting the outsides... If anyone is interested, I may start selling a few sets on a limited basis. ![]() |

What can one say Haans. Very nice. Tell me you didn't use tweezers to get all them little pieces glued into place one at a time. Very nice indeed. Blessings |

Thanks folks! Paddy, in case you never saw it, here's the log, slice off the log and slices off the slice. BTW, the green is 1 & 2 veneers, but the orange is osage, the dark wood is BRW, and the white holly... ![]() Guys I got excited and posted the middle part, but the two outside strips are still work in progress. Anyone interested, drop me an email in a month or so. I might do the red stuff too as I'm will be doing the outside strips like this: ![]() The purfling will be different than most as it will come with the two outside strips 30" long and enough of the center strips to cover 30". It installs like abalone purfling in that you glue the two outside strips along with a teflon strip on the guitar and then pull the teflon and glue in the center purfling part. JS and Corky, it's going to be relatively expensive, more than a strip of herringbone, probably around the price of two strips of herringbone and 30" of abalone. Tim, I guess I'll have to make another GC... |

Thanks guys. JJ, it'll be about a week or so before I get everything sorted out. I intend to inlay a soundhole first to see how it goes. The strips are 34.5" long, so they will cover just about any guitar size, but I'll need to know the perimeter length so I can figure the number of center strips. Same with soundhole and backstrip if you are doing that. Drop me an email with that info. Make sure you have a way to cut into the top for the purf, as it is around 3/8" wide and will extend past the kerfing. I'll get a more accurate measurement on the width when I inlay the soundhole. I use one of these and then chisel the waste after the binding ledge is cut. ![]() ![]() |

Here's a soundhole I finally got inlayed for a white oak mini bimbo. Kind of a fight to get the two outside strips in with the teflon, but I found that my usual sticking the strips up the laundry tub hose and turning it on hot for a couple of minutes made the strips flexible. I would push the two strips into the routed slot and worm the teflon strip between them to push them tight against the routed edges. ![]() ![]() So, anyone want a set for their instrument, drop me an email from my website. |

Thanks Joe! We think along the same lines... "Pretty pimp" ![]() The PI pufling is still waiting for a body, but it's down a ways. It's more experimental, so I don't devote the time that I do to to my more mainstream instruments. I'm kinda not too inspired by the stuff as it is tough to bend after cutting into strips and breaks up a lot while installing. |

Here are the three options I said I would offer. Each is right around .3" wide and the center is .060, same as the Stew-Mac strip. ![]() |
