When thicknessing the back on my current build, I noticed some yellow discoloring starting to appear in the sapwood. Does anyone know what it is and how long it takes before it disappears? The white-balance is a bit off on the pic, but the stuff has a really intense, lemonish yellow color. You can see it on the cut-off on the pic, but not on the actual back. Thanks! |

Character ![]() I like little things like that that show its a natural material. As long as it dosnt affect the stability of the wood. Someone may have a better answer. |

It's wood. I like the inconsistencies as long as there are no structural concerns, which it doesn't appear to be in your case. |

Sondre, I couldn't say for sure if this color is a stain from something the tree sucked up and is permanent or not. It isn't uncommon for wood that is not completely dry to exhibit a yellowish color until it dries. Could this stuff be a bit green still? |

Staining in sapwood is quite common. As long as there is no decay, it should be fine structurally. If you don't like the appearance, you can always dye it. |
