Only 7 months, compared to the 2 years that it took to complete the first one :-) Both OMs.

#2 is mahogany back and sides, with bearclaw sitka top. #3 is all mahogany. Both have EIR bridge, fretboard and headplate. Bloodwood binding.

Lots of cosmetic issues, but I'm very happy with the way they play and the way they sound. Perhaps surprisingly, the all-mahogany one seems bigger and brighter than the sitka/mahogany. I had an all-mahogany Martin 00-17 at one point, and it had a great, dry, woody tone. But this one might as well be rosewood. Lots of sustain, overtones and lively sounding.

And, as always, I couldn't have done it without the help I've received here. So thank you once again.

Steve

Really nice looking guitars. I just love all mahogany boxes, gotta build one one of these days.

They look great!

What type of finish? Did you stain the mahogany?

That's a nice looking couple of guitars. [:Y:] [clap]
For some reason I really like the look of the all mahogany one.

Thanks for the kind words. Both are french polished. The mahogany darkened naturally in the process, no stain.

Very nice work! The OM is rapidly becoming my favorite size and shape for guitars. I also like the all mahogany number. Its got a very rich coloring to it!

Those look great!
I like the OM shape too.
I was wondering what top thickness and bracing size difference between the two tops was.
Can you remember?
Sweet!!!!!

They look good. You should be proud. Keep building and keep to the basic for several and the cosmetics will come with experience. Once you start getting those issues taken care of, then expand into more and more.

nice work! It's also a great idea to build two identical ones with differing top woods. Perhaps a slight difference in brace shaving had an effect on tone too. Love that mahogany. Looks like you got some excellent bear clawing on the spruce too.

The tops ended up being remarkably similar. Finished thickness on both was 2.6mm, give or take .1. The braced weight for the sitka was 9 oz. For the mahogany, 10 oz.

Height at the X was 3/4" for both. Braces were 1/4" and scalloped. I didn't measure the scalloping, just kept tapping and removing wood. Tap. Bong. Tap. Bong. Tap. Bong. Tap. Bong. Tap. Bonnnnng.

Then I quit :-)

Don't know if that helps, but I love the mahogany one.
