Post subject:  Best dehumidifier?

It's getting to be that time of year and my last dehumidifier died in September. This was my third dehumidifier since I started building guitars in 2004-haven't had one last much more than two years. The summers here (NYC) are pretty hard on them. I'm looking for something in the 50-70 pint range and just wondering what models folks have had good experiences with. I would definitely be willing to pay a little more for something that'll last longer. Thanks.

I just bought a Sears 70 pint model on Wednesday. This is the largest one they have but without the pump and remote control. Seems to be working very well.
I run two units at a time as my basement is rather large (though not wet I'm happy to say).
My oldest Sears unit started making bad noises (most likely the compressor bearings) so I decided to replace instead of repair though Sears does have a network of service stations for their stuff which can be handy. The unit features a defrost cycle which is good if your basement gets below 65 degrees.

I've run a Solusa for three years now without a glitch.

Spend more, save money and cooling: Thermastor Santa Fe.

They are relatively quiet, more efficient in extraction of moisture, and generate less heat. I have what is now the classic. It does more than the pair of 50pt Hudson Bay units I used to have and use half the energy to do so. They also offer an outboard pump so you don't have to empty the bins or have it near a drain.

Worth every penny.

Just move to New Mexico. My digital hygrometer has been pegged at "Lo" (<15%) for weeks now.

I've been using one of those Santa Fe units, though the company changed hands and the name changed, for 10 years or so. My normal outside humidity here in Hawaii is 65-95%. The Santa Fe has performed flawlessly. Very quiet, cheap to run, no bins to drain, and relatively cool running. As Dave said, worth every penny.
