Just curious to hear people's experience. Sound, workability, bending, likes, dislikes. I came across a nice board recently but it was so big, all I could tell was that it was dense. Couldn't get much of a sense of the tap. |

Yep .. Belair Harp number one is Makore .. bends well, sands OK, its a tough wood - I resawed the plank myself, it cut great, others have said the silica content ruins blades, but this board didnt, but the dust makes me sneeze, almost instantly ... |

It's been a while since I worked with it, so the details are hazy. It was fairly difficult to bend but that may have been do to the wide figure, and the fact that this was the first set I bent. IIRC it has somewhat irritating dust, like Tony said. Sound wise, not so impressive, but it was my 2nd guitar so I'm sure I'm to blame for most of that. Attachment: P1010009red.JPG

I've used it once. Guitar sounded nice, wood worked fine for me and bent easy enough. |

Wear a mask - the dust irritates pretty much everyone i've ever talked to - even folks (like myself) who don't show any allergies to other woods. It looks nice, but I'll never work with it again due to the irritation issues! Trev |

Nice looking instruments Tony and Matt! George, thanks for the offer but after hearing about the respiratory issues, I'll probably pass. I have awesome new dust collection and am careful with everything but I'm not sure I need to introduce a known problem. On the other hand, it's hard to walk by a 14" wide board, quartered, free of heart, consistent figure...... It's a sickness. |

I once passed on a 10" wide 8/4 Wenge board, 12 ft long with absolutely straight grain, perfectly quartered and 1/2" of sapwood down one side for the whole length. I had it out of the stack, lying on the floor, staring at it. I still kick myself. |

I've used it and it is pretty nice. Worked like mahogany and kinda sounded like it too...
