For those of you who remember ,my "goal" was to build a guitar in 50 hours (without sacrificing quality). So it came in at 44 hours -the only thing I didn't make was the kerfed lining and slotting the fretboard. I resawed all the wood for the back sides and neck and I did the finish in house. Obviously it has a very simple binding scheme which saves a lot of time-it also has no head veneer. Back and sides: flame birch Neck: Poplar Top: Adi fretboard and bridge: Gaboon ebony Binding: ivoroid (celluloid nitrate) Tuning machines: Stew Mac vintage Nitro finish Bolt on neck (butt joint-no tenon) I will do a youtube video and post it soon. It is ladder braced-26-1/2" scale tuned down 4 half steps (C) This thing ROARS!! |

And a very handsome guitar is the result of your efforts! So, what aspects of your work/effort organization yielded the most significant time rewards for you? |

Hi Douglas, It's hard to explain, but I think I really planned out every step and didn't fuss as much as usual-a sort of "just do it" attitude. I "decided" how long a task "should" take and it usually ended up being spot on. I also used a few jigs like for head slotting, and tapering the fretboard. I plan on knocking 10-20% off that time by using more jigs to shape braces, etc. |
