I'm at the point in my tele build that I need to start thinking about the finish. I want to retain the rough and rugged look of the body but don't want the raw wood. I'm leaning toward tung oil as the finish and was wondering if it would work well over CA as a filler. Also, I want to tint my neck so that it doesn't look so new compared to the body. I'd appreciate any suggestions there as well. I don't have any spray guns or anything. I've thought about KTM9 tinted with amber and brushed on. Thoughts? Here's how everything looks right now ![]() |

Test on scrap first, I think CA over tung oil will be fine, just make sure you sand back to wood after filling the pores, don't leave any CA on the surface. Sand back to 320 for the tung oil sessions. |

Pine doesn't need pore filling. Just choose a finish and go with it. I would use a wipe on poly, like minwax, or General, or tung oil. |

FWIW I've used Stew Macs water based finish with amber, blue and mahogany tints and it worked out quite nicely. Probably would be the same with the KTM. |

Can't see why that wouldn't work, test on scrap first though. I've not done any tinting with finish so I have only read knowledge of it. But that's how folks do bursts and shading so I'm sure it will work with KTM9 or other water based finishes. |
