So after gluing my X brace on I realized I made it to tall [headinwall] [headinwall] and when I carved it down the joint wouldn't be right.
so what the best way to remove it with out scrapping the top?

Keep carving.

Chisel,plane, sand paper...

Why won't the joint be right? As long as you've got wood glued to wood and capped you should be just fine... idunno

Are you assuming that the joint between the two MUST be at the center between them??? Someone please tell me why you'd need to make the lap joint equal on both pieces....?

What Rod says, is True!
Sorry, bad pun, but good advice.

I thought that the over lap has to be the same on both sides for strength. oops_sign

Nope, if the bracing is otherwise good - just too tall, I would just plane/chisel it down and then cap the joint. Can't see how that would be a problem.

Ah dang it!!! I already started to remove it and even cracked the edge of the top. Hopefully I can fix it.

I cracked the edge about 20 inches in then gain another inch in. should I use my lmi white glue or CA glue?

That crack sounds like you split the top in half...

Use the LMI white to repair, CA doesn't fix cracks on soft wood well IMO.

Yeah it's a split. Didn't break it all of the way off tho

Well, work glue in the split as best you can without opening it up anymore. Put some weight on it and pull the pieces together.
