Has anyone ever tried a tappered sliding dovetail (floating) for a neck and fret board attachment? You would have to leave the truss rod out but with the proper sized dovetail on the neck probably wouldn't need it........ sliding dovetail on the fret board side would need to be much smaller. So you actually have two different size dovetails ( on the floating tenon male dovetails ) one for the fret board and one for the neck....... tapered sliding dovetail would allow minimal..... connection problems. Using something like this it might be possible to remove the fret board at will. I could also see a possible easy way to make the neck detachable from the body if you can remove the fret board without damage. Thoughts. Hope I have made this clear. Kevin |

Fret boards would need to be thicker than what is typically available. Laminate them? I would still want a two way truss rod. But hey go for it, make one and find out. |

If you made it so you could take the fretboard off at will, I would be concerned about it moving at will too, but its will, not mine. It would be hard to sell a fretboard that moved while playing as a "feature." Of course, you could put it on a threaded rod and use it for doing experiments for the nut compensation thread. Mike |
