I am looking for a forum to get some help with an archtop neck reset.
Can I do it here or is there another place to go?

If there is a model # I can't find it? It's a very old gretsch.
The logo is a banner like design in mop.
The neck near the heal is .050 loose from the body.
I am wondering if I can steam at the 15th fret slot; or possibly after removing the heal cap, drilling a hole & do it there.
Then proceed as normal.
I tried adding a photo but it didn't work, probably too big?

Mike, can you post some pictures? I would suggest some general identifying pictures of the guitar, and then a couple of detailed pictures of your problem. There are some very good archtop builders here who, I'm sure, will be glad to advise. But first, they will want to SEE your situation so they can give appropriate advice. I'm sure it's fixable. Anything is. Good luck with it.

Hello Mike!
I reset the neck on American Orchestra banner Gretsch a week ago and the end of dove tail is about 2mm shorter than the 15 fret. I also recommend to use thin hot spatula to release a joint at the hangover of the neck. Use some kind of device (you can build it from scrap) to pull the neck out. Drill holes for steam as usual. I will put a photo here for you to see the dimension of the dove tail.
Good luck! :)

I am hitting something hard centered near the 15th fret slot, as clear/loosen the glue.
Is there a screw in there somewhere? idunno

If you know somebody in health care sneak it in and XRay it. I do it all the time. Solves all your problems.

Gosh I'm havin so much fun, not.
Here is my set up basically a shim under the heel with my framework on top being pushed down with a go bar. My go bar is offset mayne to the 17th fret, is that OK?
My 1/16" hole is about 1.5" deep, but a probe can only make it about 2.5" down.
I tried steaming for 5 mins but nothing.
So I assume it's packed with glue for another inch. So now I am thinking about increasing the depth of the hole all the way down. Unfortunately it will have to be 1/8" in diameter.
Another luthier emphasized it needs to be dry steam & that moisture may swell the wood
some.
comments appreciated.
