![]() Someone wants me to put a new bone saddle on this guitar but this is a very strange configuration for saddles. It seems the electronic is designed to only accept saddles that are molded into that shape so that it would fit the corresponding slot in the electronic. How can I make a saddle for something like this and still have a functioning electronic? |

Have you removed the saddle to see what the bottom looks like? Alex |

I have a Takamine that I wanted to put in a bone saddle. When I removed the saddle, I found the same thing. The plastic one has a narrow section molded to fit inside the transducer and there are notches in the underside between the strings. I never bothered to try to replicate this in bone (though I planned to). I was worried that getting string balance when amplified would be more trouble than it was worth. This is not a particularly nice sounding guitar. . . You're really not out anything for trying though. I'm sure it can be done, I just didn't want to bother. |

It looks like someone slotted the saddle from the bottom (as recommended for better transducer usage) and then string pressure pulled it forward out of the bridge. Just replace it with a bone saddle. |

Tai Fu, I'm sorry, I didn't even look at the picture before I commented (Barry's post reminded me that there was a picture). My comment above probably was not very relevant/helpful. To be honest I'm not sure what I'm looking at. Is the saddle folded over? Are those slots between the string paths? It looks like it is, at best, a poor fit to the slot. Go ahead and replace it; I think you would have to try pretty hard to make a worse saddle ![]() |

Sorry Tai Fu, I didn't look that closely at the picture either! If the saddle works well with proper intonation, string height, just shape the bone replacement as the old one. If It doesn't, you can make a better one that your customer will be really pleased with. Like Bryan, I had to make a saddle for my Takamine, but I used Tusq instead of bone. Alex |
