Have any of you built with Black Limba? I'm thinking about starting steel string a build with some. If you have how did it bend? What kind of thickness for the sides and back? |

I am working on one at the present time, it bends real easy and is a joy to work with. I have the box closed but it is sitting while a couple builds catch up. I am trying to decide what binding to use, I have some nice Cocobolo and Indian rosewood ready to bend, but will probably do ebony for the contrast. I did the rosette with black limba also and it looks real nice.

Fred, you might consider African Blackwood for th ebinding. Just a touch more choclate color than ebony but mostly appears black and it has a bit of a grain to it instead of the near plastic look of ebony and it's abailable at Hiibdon Hardwood. Just tossing out another option. |

I built a OOO-12 fret a few years back from some of Bob's first offering of Limba, paired with a lutz top. I count Limba to be very much at the mahogany end of the tone spectrum. It's an easy wood to work with, bending very easily, with no springback. Sides were bent at 0.085" and back thickness on mine was about 0.100" before final sanding. Very underrated wood. I used a cherry neck and Ziricote for fingerboard, bridge and binding.    Colin |

Mike, it's one of my boys. The purfling lines are a wide black limba with ebony/pear/ebony. I use this as I don't like b/w/b. I buy them from one of my suppliers over here, but they were discussed in Bob's recent thread. Colin |

Darryl I have some real dark cocobolo that I am leaning towards using, I was also thinking of the curly black walnut the uncle Bob at RC has. I like Colin's binding the brown matches the dark pattern in the Limba, so I think one of the darl brown woods for binding but I always waffle back and forth right up till I start the binding process. |

treat it like mahogany. thickness, spring back, tone...just a bit more interesting to look at. I like it. |
