I plan to build a parlor guitar for my grandaughter with traditional ingredients, spruce top and mahogany neck. The sides, back, fret board tuning head vineer out of purpleheart and the binding will be ebony. Being new at this (2 built) I have no experience with purpleheart and would appreciate any advice, cautions, and insights.

Have been working on one for a awhile now , Purple heart thread . Its a pain to bend if you ask me . It also turns a brownish color over time . I mixed up a purple Dye that was extremely close to the orig material and dye'd it hoping that it will keep it from browning.

Watch out for splinters. A friend of mine had to go to the hospital and take antibiotics.

Yes, it's quite hard... Very abrasive - so it dulls stuff quickly....
If you are thicknessing with planes and scrapers - be sure you have a toothing iron for your plane or something similar for stock removal....

It can also be chippy depending on the grain.... The straight grain stuff isn't too bad... The highly figured stuff I fooled with was really chippy...

Be prepared to go thin to bend....

Thanks
