Post subject:  questions about the Hock knife

Hello!
I just purchased and received my first carving knife. I bought a 3/4" Hock knife.
I was surprised to see that it wasn't ready to use out of box. The tip of the knife is also chipped.
Is it normal?

For those who also own these knives, did you experience the same thing?
Am I expected to regrind the knife to get the nice sharp edge and the pointy tip?

Thank you for your input.

Send it back. Mine was sharp and pointy when it arrived from LMI.

Please see my comments in the Hock "violin" knife thread. It does not come as sharp as it can get.

Send the hock knife back. Mine was ok, I ground the bevel back on either edge diamond stone and spent time honing and polishing. to a mirror shine with green jewellers rouge on a thick pce of leather

The tip should definitely not be chipped. I'd send it back for a new one.

Hey! Thank you all for your input.
I had a chance to exchange email with Mr. Ron Hock about the tip. I was surprised that he answered the email in the weekend too.
Great guy...

The retail store did sent me a new replacement. The knife is sharp and pointy. Everything is great.
Now I need to learn about how to make a handle for the knife.

PS, if you have pictures to show, that will be great...
I like the one John and Dennis showed before...they are great.
