I'm looking to make a supper low action on my current build. I want to know, do I just make my saddle low and nut slots deep, or can I make a steeper neck angle? Most of the 12 strings that I've played have that super low action that I'm looking to achieve if you know what I'm talking about. Thanks! |

Well the place to start is to get your fretwork perfect so that it can accommodate a low action. Get the fretboard right, take care with the uniformity and security of fret installation, and do a great level and crown. Set the neck relief to a loe figure, 5-10 thousandths of an inch works for me. Nut Slots should aways be low regardless, I set so that when you fret between 2 and 3 there is just a very small clearance between the first fret and the underside of the string. Neck angle should be set such that with your desired action, the string height above the soundboard at the bridge is what you have designed for. |

Mr. Highland is correct. Get your fretboard squared away, and the rest will fall into place. No amount of adjustments can improve a poorly playing fretboard. |

But don't forget to adjust your neck angle so you still achieve the target saddle height. That is the most important part of the design. To get 2mm at the 12th fret you need to take 4mm off the saddle which would make your saddle only 10mm high if you are aiming for around 14mm on the 4 string at the saddle. Perhaps you'll make it lower as its a 12 stringer. Cheers Dominic |

It's going to be a six stringer, just want that super low perfect action like I've seen on most 12's |
