OK, my turn to start one of these. It seems that the last one is off of the board.

Finished the 5th coat of varnish on a new canoe.

Sent out the "Y" stern.

Installed the tuning machines on my L-00 and did all of the set up. Details take forever!

Rough carved out the peg box on the peg head on the viola da gamba.

Thought that I had finished the paint on the new canoe. A yellow canoe is like a blast of sunshine in the shop on a cold January morning!

Love the yellow canoe!

At last closed the box on a double X-brace Black Walnut/Englemann SJ build and bandsawed out the laminated neck blank I started building almost a year ago (before work intervened)

Making progress on #2. It's my attempt at a sustainable wood build.
Reclaimed Black Walnut, WRC top, PO Cedar neck with Sycamore appointments.

Arnt - I am always impressed with your work when you post it. It's consistently simple, elegant and classy. Very appealing to my eye. Thanks for sharing.

Nice!
Working on a "Phin" commission,
and a tenor Weiss style for the build challenge.
Both unchartered waters for me!

Joined the top and back, bent the sides and made the fingerboard for an Adi/Wenge "W" body comission. Client is undecided on binding. Would Walnut be too dark, (or too anything) with Wenge? Top is going to be a fairly dark burst, with old Martin style herringbone purfling.

I decided to make my own hand painted 'mottled' photography backdrop, as I already have painting drop cloths, and grey and white paint.

The first attempt (in photo) was a bit too light so I added in a little black water based stain.

Why not just buy one? I really don't know.

Splined a crack in this top. Won't be invisible, but will blend in pretty well.

Nice work all around. Love everything about that guitar, Arnt!

I've been pretty busy with job-related tasks, but I did find time last night to joint and glue the back plates for my OLF challenge mandolin. Hope to start gluing braces in place today.

Realised after I posted I didn't show the body on my post after it was closed.
SJ body in the background..

Now I'm resizing binding and purfling stock for it using my shop made "Luthier's Friend" for the first time. (I just bought the Robo-Sander) .

Money in and money out weekend. Boxed up a lap steel (money in  ) and started building my new router table that will house a new PC 892 and a Rockler router lift (money out wow7-eyes )

Nice stuff everyone but Douglas and Arnt are going on my permanent 'Hate Them' list. Wow!

As always, astounding work guys. As for me, I've been the demented jeweler. Spent most of the weekend cutting pearl and abalone for the 3 I am currently building. the first set of inlays are Paua heart, the ebony will fill the diamonds in the center. at first I was going to do pearl diamonds in the center, but I think I like the ebony peeking through better. The next set is a smaller version of my bow-tie markers done in white & gold MOP. At lunch I brought a sharpie and a piece of pearl up and had my wife Apryl sign it. I set this into a scrap of ebony just as a demonstration piece and as a cool little prize for my wife.

I got my next telecaster body started-- cut out to shape and chambers drilled out. This is alder and will have a walnut cap

Image

I also finally got the finishing touch for my mili-tele. Someone from the AGF sent me a couple of .50 cal brass so I could finally make my knobs. As I said on the thread in the electric forum, they're not perfect, but nothing on this guitar is :P . I ended up using a JB Weld stick to fill up the brass. It seemed to work ok, but I think there's gotta be something better out there.

Bent the Cuban Mhogany sides for the 00 I'm building. This is the first set of sides I've bent (though I bent a couple of practice sides beforehand; 1 sycamore and 1 mahogany). Didn't turn out too bad. Here is a shot but I haven't yet sanded the water stains.

Tonight I am putting on tuners, making a saddle and nut, fretting, putting on a Trapeze and maybe tuning up my first Tenor :) Gotta get off the computer first.

My parents bought a house when I was 14. The fellow before was quite a workshop guy. 2 years after we bought the house it hit us that the drawers on the bench were marked Global "Explo" "sives" between two drawers. So cool. You need something like a C4 switch for a guitar effect ;)
