And it's cheap too, without the expensive shipping from $tewMac.

It looks like the exact same thing as the Stewmac guitar repair vise, except its painted green and the handle looks different, but has the same plastic jaw, 360 degree rotation, etc.

I am really thinking of getting one now because my bench vise doesn't grab hard enough and it squeaks loudly as I turn it...

Any comment?

They also sell another version for slightly more that opens to 50cm (about 18") but I think that might be too big for my bench...

They also sell the same shop stand sold by Stewmac as well...

Congratulations.
I wish I could find for a reasonable price here in UK.
The only one I have found is UK£ 125 + postage, which seems a bit steep compared to a parrot vice at about a 1/4 of the price free delivery with other stuff at the same time.

I found it while looking for a "parrot vise" which I couldn't really find. Almost contemplated dropping the cash to order one from Stewmac/LMI (LMI only sells parrot vise) and pay 200 dollars shipping to ship 38 lbs of steel to Taiwan plus duties (because for some reason TW Customs likes to tax any shipment from LMI), and then I found this one.

The icing on the cake is that shipping is free...

Looks good! Mine is not the Stew Mac version, but I love it. I use it every day. I glued some heavy leather to the jaw faces. It holds great. Nice and solid. I have not yet replaced the bolts with studs, but I mean to. It works good as is, I just have to loosen the bolts a hair once in a while. I need to add a leather hammock under the jaws to keep things off the metal bars. Like the neck I was working on yesterday. [headinwall]

I can't tell how much it is, but if I didn't have one, I'd get it.

Mike

Nice score! That looks like a pretty good find. I purchased one a couple of years ago and it is a handy vise to have around.

I really need one because while I have a wooden vise on the side of the bench, it can't hold a guitar and oftentimes I had to place it on the bench and hold it with one hand, and do the work with the other...

Nice, that's the same one I have. Works perfectly!!!!! I wouldn't get the one that opens up to 18" though, that's what a bench with bench dogs and a front or tail vise is for ;)

Looks very good!! I also have a "knock-off" that looks just like the Stew-Mac one. It's especially useful for holding
tapered things like necks. I do all my fret filing, tuner mounting, nut fitting, in that vise. For holding guitar bodies
however, I use a homemade jig made with two small pipe clamps that I copied off this forum, but I'm sorry to whoever originally designed it, I don't remember the source. Here's a picture of both the guitar vise and the repair vise.
