I'm in the running!
I am building a Phin for a friend,
set up the fb to be glued on,
(already tapered, slotted, and drilled for dots)
then glued it on.
Luckily I double checked it before any more work on it,
it was off center by an 1/8" at the bridge!
So, I planed/chiseled/ and sanded it off.
Oh well!

On my cocobolo build I made a smaller soundhole and it has an oval sound port in the upper bout . I just realized that in doing so I have made a guitar that I cannot get my hand into to bolt the neck on . [headinwall] So here I sit thinking about how I am gonna pull it off .

I know there is a simple solution , just havent figured it out yet . Im leaning toward using allen head bolt and a key that I can reach in and use that way

All my bolt ons are allen head.
If you're planning on an end pin, you could go in through the hole in the tail block with a little ingenuity.

Well, I should have submitted my challenge ukelele in this thread rather than the voting thread.

It sounds like crap and looks average, I did a lot of things wrong with it, and its no surprise that its in the last place now.

If you want to see a picture just look at the challenge voting thread.

Should have backed out when I had the chance.

I spent 6 hours attempting to spray my guitar with my hvlp gun, cussing with frustration as a small cloud of finish came out. No matter what I tried nothing but small burst of finish came out. I took it apart, lubed parts, cleaned and re-cleaned, nothing worked. Finally gave up and came back the next day only to realize, by mistake I might add, the vent hole was clogged. Works beautifully now!

Weekend before last, I very carefully set up my router and jig to do my truss rod channel, checked and double checked and then promptly routed to within 1/16" of the back of my buddy's uncarved neck. The depth stopped slipped about halfway down the length and next thing I knew I was cutting it in half to prep it for re-lamination.

This is not lutherie related, but today when my wife asked if her jeans made her look fat, I said it wasn't the jeans.
Good thing the weather is warm because my shop isn't heated!

OK. That didn't really happen. I just wanted to get in on the "Doofus" Thread action.

I am building a Selmer with an oval hole now with a bolt on neck. Check out this handy dandy little tool:

Works like a charm.

I'm no expert on Uke's but I didn't think it sounded bad at all. Kind of what I would expect a Uke to sound like

Using loudness as the sole criterion when evaluating someone's hand made instrument automatically qualifies one for the doofus award.

Dear Mr. Bear,

You have been working hard lately and you haven't been sleeping well. I understand and appreciate you desire to sneak into the workshoppe and do some late night woodworking. You are old enough to know the dangers the workshoppe can present to a distracted mind; If you must go downstairs, may I suggest you do something safe like drawing up plans. May I sugest drawing up a new headstock design?

Yours truely,

Mr. Laminate Trimmer
