Did you get that fingerboard at A.S.I.A '09 by any chance? Today I am replacing a broken part on my Jet 10/20 so I can stink up the place with IR |

Ok, I'll bite, since it's been a marathon shop weekend -- wife and kid are at the grandparents, so I've basically been living in the shop. These are shots of a sitka and fiddleback koa baritone I'm currently working on. Got the rosette assembled and glued in. A bit of a puzzle, getting everything in place and tight, but not too tight... Also got all the bracing on the top, today is my favorite step -- brace-carving and tap tuning! ![]() |

After a year with little motivation and too many excuses ( I need a foxbender etc) I finally got the hot pipe out and got six great bends in one session. Two koa sides I managed to salvage from the termite attack, and four solid linings. Feels good to be back at it. As usual great inspiration from this place ![]() Attachment: P1020883 (640x480).jpg

I've managed to get quite a bit done this weekend although it didn't seems so at the time. I'm working on two instruments, one for my kid and one for my first "commission", in quotes because I have no intention of charging the guy because one, he's been waiting forever and second, he's a much better player then I and when I hearing him play on the prototype for his instrument was perhaps the most enjoyable moment I've ever had as a result of luthiery. Anyhow, the kid's bandura is coming out o.k. but it's a bit of a hack job as I'm trying some new things and just sort of designing on the fly. I'm ending up using epoxy in spots because without good templates and primarily the method I used to bend the rim, I simply can't get perfect joints. I also managed to join the top for this one (3 piece) and the back for this instrument and the sister instrument that's going to this one's brother ( ![]() |

Thanks Chris, I'll have finished pics up in just a couple of days. The build is part of the TDPRI 2012 Tele Build Challenge if you want to peruse the whole convoluted process http://www.tdpri.com/forum/2012-tdpri-tele-build-challenge/318180-wheelies-2012-challange-build-thread.html. I really should plan these things out before I start them. Ken Jones, That is a killer rosette! Steve |
