hello, I've just applied TRU OIL to my spruce top and it ain't looking good! I would apply a different colour, maybe black, red - don't know. What is possible now 3 x applications of tru oil on the spruce please? This is a rescue situation! Help needed! I think the spruce got dirty in the process, now needs covering To thin to sand any more off. Any advice gratefully accepted... Cheers |

I don't have any experience with True Oil, but have used Tried and True, which is polymerized linseed oil and beeswax. I have cleaned it off on occasion with chemicals. Wasn't stripper, but was either naptha or acetone, can't remember which right now, but it did an acceptable job. Might be worth a shot, just soak a paper towel, rub, repeat. But use a new paper towel all along so as not to reapply. Good luck! |

It's nothing you can't fix IMHO. I would say wipe it clean with acetone and refinish. It's a bit of a pain but with patience you won't even know anything happened. Hope that helps. |

I was initially excited by tru-oil because of it's ease of application and low toxicity. I've never used it on tops beacuse of the many arguments I've read about it dampening sound but I've used it everywhere else. It works great on necks but on back and sides where there are large flatish planes it just dosen't look good and it's so thin it always comes through when you sand and polish it. In future i'm going for french polish which is accepted as an excellant finish for tone, low toxicity and I'll tell you how easy the applictaion is when I try it. |
