Post subject:  Best source for inlay bits?
I've been purchasing my downcut inlay bits from StewMac - and they work quite well. But I am wondering if there is a source for something similar that I can get a better price in quantity of 5 or 10 bits?

Right now SM's price is $18.55 for one and $17.05 for 3 or more.

Yeah - we break those 1/32" bits on occasion.

$8.40 each if you buy 10, and they last a long time. I think I'll get a 1/64" as well next time I order, to help with sharp corners.

Dennis - what item # do you order for a 1/32 on the page you sent me to? And what item # would you order for a 1/64".

I just use the plain 1/32", item number MM208-0313-013F.

Looks like 1/64" is MM208-0156-007F. Its max depth of cut is only .07", but that should be enough for most inlays. And even for deep ones, it's still a head start before switching to a knife to jab out the last bit.

What the heck? It appears they are... and that I've been thinking my bits were cutting the other direction for over 2 years :oops: Does this qualify for doofus of the month?

Well, I guess the cutting direction really doesn't matter that much then, since they've always worked great with no tearout or anything. But here's the downcut page, although there's no 1/64" downcut bit. http://www.precisebits.com/products/carbidebits/downcut_2flute.asp
