Everyone who builds acoustic guitars is familiar with Wayne Handerson I imagine. And most everyone is familiar with his music festival that is held each year in June. Well the grand prize for the flat picking contest they hold there is a Henderson guitar. There are tons of competitors from around the country who participate with the hopes of winning a Henderson. This year, the winner of the contest, Ben Cockman from Sherrills Fork North Carolina, won the contest playing a guitar he had won as the grand prize in another contest a few weeks earlier. The first guitar Ben won was built by Craig Southern, a friend of mine from another forum and a really great guy, at the Robin Kessinger Festival. He went on to win the contest at Wayne-Fest just a couple of weeks ago.
Craig is a real nice guy, a member here who joined recently but has yet to post, and makes a really nice guitar. He has made a bit of a name for himself as a local builder and I wanted to congratulate him on building a truly award winning guitar!
I just wanted to give a shout out to a good guy who deserves a little recognition for a job well done. Here is a pic of the guitar that won the Henderson contest:
