Not guitars, this w/e. Taking a busman's holiday. Still wood and acoustics, but closed up a pair of these rear loaded horns.

50th birthday pres. for a mate. Four feet high and ~50kg when fully loaded. Gave them a sound test this evening. Now I know what all the fuss is about. The next pair's for me!

I recently (almost) completed a re-model of the shop. I have incorporated a playing/listening area. When I work the "Space of Tranquility" is what I see. I also use the space for reading and such after I am done working for the day. It was about 10 days to move everything, paint the walls, and then put things in new spots. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a few items as I have started building again and that has slowed me down. I should have taken photos when everything was orderly but this is more real.

I am working on a guitar for my grand daughter. It is based on Torres SE117 plans. Here's the Rosette.

Counting the days until I get back from Spain (13 now) and can get back in the shop.

Curiously, aside from the fact that I walk by Manuel Bellido's, Antonio Marin's and Antonio Raya Pardo's shops twice a day every day, the trip has had no guitar content.

Been doing a lot of work on the shop - still a huge mess but it's getting there. Installed a small paint booth that is almost done, added two branches to the dust collection system, reworked my lumber rack into shelves for my guitar wood, added another electrical circuit for the bandsaw, and other stuff.

Hosting the E. TN luthiers meet on Jul 21 so that's a good incentive to get it put back together into some kind of presentable shape.

Beautiful work Stephen and Waddy! Todd....I so wish I had the time and money to come out east and study with you.

I am working on top bracing OM#3. My first build with a sound port, and first time binding a soundhole....went pretty well. Hope to close the box this week. Have also decided to sand off the brushed on KTM9 from OM#2, and spray E6000 instead. The guitar turned out pretty well for a second effort, but the finish is awful [headinwall] . I'll spray #2 and #3 together.

Wendy, that finish is French Polish. I didn't really have time to do a good Tru-Oil finish. It really takes longer than FP, but is less intense. However, if someone wants that I can always put Tru-Oil over the French polish. It works great.

After working every single day from May 29th through to June 15th, I decided that a little recreational work on my wife's viola da gamba would not be a sin. Here you can see the inlay pattern for the back, the inlay pieces, a homemade line cutter, and a homemade router plane.

Looking at all of the work that this inlay requires of me, I have only one conclusion: I am insane.

I recently finished three guitars, two to be exhibited at the Guitar Foundation of America Convention. Two are cedar (outside)/spruce double tops with cocobolo back and sides. The third is a spruce (outside)/cedar double top with African blackwood back and sides.

Insane perhaps, but in a good way. I think it is going to be beautiful when it's done and can't wait to see it.

I did some cleaning as Debbie is dumping flood waters and tornados.
