Hi. I'm building a guitar with no binding. What size roundover bit would you recommend to round over the edge of the top? I have a 1/4", but I think that would be too much. The smallest I can find is 1/8". Is this appropriate, or do I need a specialty size? |

Are we talking electric or acoustic? If acoustic a 1/4 would cut into your kerfing. If we are talking acoustic I would use a 1/16" roundover bit or just do it by hand sanding. I think 1/8 would be to much. On an electric a 1/4" would be okay or even a bigger size. I have used 1/2 and 3/4 on unbound electrics. You can find 1/16 bits online. I know Grizzly and rockler has them as well as Mike |

Thanks, guys. Shaw, it's an acoustic top. Todd, my first instinct was to do it the way you described. Think I'll stick with that. Much appreciated to the both of you. |

I like a larger radius so the corners are less fragile and it's more comfortable to hold -- 1/8" or 5/32" roundover bit, set slightly high, then a little hand sanding to smooth transitions. You can start the bit high and lower progressively until you like it. |
