Here are some photos of my latest build. I am very proud of this one. It’s number 7 and a complete scratch build. The photos aren’t great, but you get the idea… It’s in the general shape of a Taylor grand auditorium, with 14 frets to the body and a Martin scale length of 25.34”. Oh yea… It sounds nice too. …and after it opens up, it should be better still…

Here are the specs:

- Black Limba back and sides
- Sitka spruce top
- Adirondack spruce scalloped bracing
- Mahogany neck
- Ziricote fingerboard, bridge, head plate, back strap, heel cap, and rosette (radial, first time)
- Ebony binding

- features a soundport in the upper bout, with cover if desired (I prefer the sound without the cover…)
- red purfling

Thanks for the support I got from OLF members during this build...
Steve

Nice job Steve! That figure pops very nicely under finish.

Looks real good - I like the red purfling. What finish did you use?

Thanks for the nice words. It means a lot from you guys... I forgot to mention that the finish is EM6000. I was lucky enough to get a Fuji HVLP system from a friend at a good price. Between the new spray system and the EM6000, my finish is definitly more professional than previous finishes using rattle cans and Tru-Oil. I'm always amazed to see some folks that post pics of they're first that is so outstanding. After 7 guitars I think I may be starting to get the hang of it...

Mark - I used some contact cement to glue some cork to fit the hole. Really, after hearing the guitar with the soundport I don't think I would ever use the cover. I had seen other people make a cover so I thought I'd try it. I sanded it the same grit as the bridge and fingerboard and didn't finish it. I just put fingerboard oil on it. It'll probably just stay in the case.

Thats a nice guitar. Nice job! I'm not a fan of side ports but I figure if you do make one why bother to cover it up? You'll probably get tired of placing that cover on and off that you'll end up tossing it. It' looks better with out it....Mike
