Chris- This comes too late, but don't ever learn how to do plumbing. And more importantly, don't ever admit that you know how to do plumbing. Good luck. I promise I won't tell. |

Ended up having to work this weekend but still found the time to get a few things done on the dread I'm building for the challenge. Got the neck and tail blocks ready and bent the bubinga sides. This was the first set of sides using my newly hot-rodded Ibex bending iron and the difference was substantial. The extra heat made it much easier to get a smoother bend, I still need practice but what an improvement! I'll try to get in the shop today and get the neck and tail blocks glued in. |

I'm working on a speaker cabinet right now. Looking to finish number four soon. It's my "Baroque" archtop. European spruce and maple for the top and back. The fingerboard panel is cocobolo inlaid into the ebony fingerboard. Ebony bindings with radial cocobolo purfling on the top. I wanted the binding and purfling to look like half of the fingerboard split off and wrapped around the guitar. I also did a purfling detail on the back. |

Nice detailing, Jason. Peter, that Australian Blackwood looks awesome. Alex, good luck with the Blanca. As for me, I'm way up north again, leading a canoe shop for three weeks. One more to go. We're working on 20' freighter canoes. I'm also making 6 oars for them. I forgot my camera cable, so no photos! Back in my own shop I am closing in on finishing the inlay on my viola da gamba. |

After fixing a Pacifica, a Lotus and an Alverez of their various afflictions I reworked the headstock thickness on my latest dread (stupid mistake). At the the bottom of that pile and found Chris V's burled walnut veneer. Better get that in the mail before someone calls me Brock. |

Got the last coat of finish on an AJ, and the first coat of paint on a dread cutaway which I just carved the neck for today. And got up on the roof and cleaned the gutters. And now I'm waiting for an electronics engineer to come over, and we're going to see about designing my own brand of pickup systems...neato! |

I learned the three rules of plumbing years ago Rule 1: water runs downhill (along with other things) Rule 2: payday's on Friday Rule 3: don't lick your fingers |

Started final shaping & sanding of Les Paul build. The neck isn't glued on yet but getting very close. Attachment: Front.jpg Used Mirka Abranet for the first time. Worked fantastic on the carve top for final sanding. Also worked well on back of neck. Attachment: Abranet.jpg Kevin Looker |

Some guy brought in a guitar a while back that his dog tipped over, broke the headstock completely off of, and then chewed the broken off piece to bits. It was unrepairable, so I scarfed a new headstock onto the stump. I finished shaping it this weekend, now it's going to Moe for some touch up paint. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... ce035cf52c |

I strung up a couple instruments yesterday including this Sinker Redwood/Ziricote guitar -- by the way, this is a really nice wood combination. Some of the Rosewoods when paired with Redwood can have a timbre that is a bit too "lush" -- I have found that Ebony and Ziricote still maintain enough clarity to yield a very rich sounding but versatile instrument. These two are also the last instruments I will make with this body shape (I have replaced this OM with a new design) - kind of like saying goodbye to an old friend since I have been using this shape for many years now. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The guitar looks terrific, Simon! I'm glad to hear your thoughts about this wood combination, as I recently started a steel string with the same materials. I have to admit I was thinking mostly about how good they would look together, if they also sound nice as a combo, well, all the better! |
