For in between binding cutter bushing sizes which do you tape, the bushing or the guitar? What kind of tape works best?
Thanks, Wendy

I have used 1/4" masking tape on the bushing. I load up the bushing with tape and remove tape and adjust after test cuts.

I just use green masking tape on the body. I had the tape peel off the bearing once & decided to go the other way from then on.
Aluminum "muffler" tape works well if you want to tape the bearing.
Either way, I like to have a protective layer of tape on the sides, where the bearing contacts the wood. Not an issue with harder woods, but softer material like koa and walnut can easily develop a ridge where the bearing compresses the wood.

Never had much luck with adding tape to the bearing itself; if the tape comes off, you instantly get a deeper cut. Not good...

I put tape, regular 3M masking tape, on the body itself. Build-up the layers to achieve the required cut depth.

Roll the tape on in the opposite direction the bearing would be turning.

Thanks, I thinnk I'll go ahead and tape the guitar. I hate to have tape come off the bearing in the middle of a cut.
