The grain's at about 30° to the face. Is it usable or should I find something else?

What type of wood is it ? If Honduras mahogany or Spanish ceder, it should be OK. Anything else I would think twice

Sometimes rift sawn wood can be stable depending on species an age of wood.

On something as thick and small as a headstock, rift or even flat sawn makes little difference.

One of the great unique things about mahogany is that shrinkage rates are about the same in the radial and tangential directions, so dimensional stability is not a concern.
