I have two guitars started, a Ziricote OM with bear claw sitka top and a 00 12 fret cut away with sinker red ceder top.

Those look like they're going to be nice Fred. It's fun to start on new projects but I'm going to force myself to finish up 2 I've had sitting on the shelf for about a year first.

The tops and backs are braced for both guitars and the 00 is voiced and ready for closing the box

Here are photos of the 00 12fret progress

Hi, Fred. I noticed that your cutaway neck block has some extra-stout top reinforcement surface that the other one doesn't have. I'm sure there's a reason why you've built them differently, and I'm curious. Seems like the cutaway would already have a bit more longitudinal strength due to the presence of the cutaway side running almost parallel to the neck. But I'm probably missing something. Would you explain?

Great looking sets, man! I'll be watching!

That one will be a complete removable bolt on neck and the other will be a glued down fingerboard style bolt on. I have always only did dovetail joints, so these are to evaluate the 2 styles of bolt on neck joints.

Looking good Fred. First guitar I ever built was with Zircote, it's great stuff and that near claw looks great.

Yep, I missed something, and now that you explain it to me, it seems pretty obvious. A bolt on neck and bolt down fingerboard extension. Makes perfect sense to me now. Thanks, Fred. Press on, man! I'll be eager to see them.

The neck is ready for the 00 here are some pictures.

My routing pattern for the slots and the StewMac drill jig I picked up used and the finished peghead.

I have both boxes closed and the binding is complete on the OM, slow but steady progress.

Nice bearclaw. Where did you get it, if you don't mind my asking?

Steve, I picked it up from Maurice Roy at the Montreal guitar show. The sinker red ceder on the 00 also came from him.

Spectacular Fred. All the woods look amazing through the finish. The B/S are BOTH Ziricote? They look so different.

What finish? Nice work.

I guess I don't see where the b/s look different at all. Not sure if you see something that I don't but they look like they're from the same board.

The guitars are wonderful. The bear claw sitka is very nice but the sinker redwood is very interesting to me right now. I'd really like to come up with a top of sinker redwood, I think they are very aesthetically pleasing. But I personally have never actually heard a redwood topped guitar, especially sinker redwood. Anyone has experience with the sound produced by a redwood top. I assume it to be a bit warmer and slightly mellower in tone.
