Pat here's my take on your binding mach w the addition of an arm and spring to keep it from falling on the body.

Certainly simpler than the Fleishman rig, but you only actually need the last parallelogram and then move the guitar under it.

LOVE the simplicity. I'm putting that design in my data base of smart guitar stuff. Thanks Trevor.

I was lucky enough to get one of these. ( http://www.luthiertools.co.uk/ ). Mentioned in a prior thread. I've used it on three guitars. I was using the Ribbecke before with good results except tight cutaways. The new jig should be great for those and archtops otherwise the Ribbecke worked fine.

Just built a binding jig like Pat posted. I used 1/2" hardware which I would re-think. I think 3/8" should be plenty. I also used 3/4" plywood which worked OK but the larger hardware gives it a bit of a heavy, clumsy feel but that could easily be operator error. I shaped a small doughnut for the bottom and built the base out of laminated poplar and oak. Finished with some old LMI dye and shellac I had around. I trued it to the bench top from the 2 X 4 mounting post and mounted it on the face so I could store it behind the bench. It does move out of the way pretty well.

I haven't bound anything yet but simulated the needed motion and it seemed just OK. Not as fluid as I had hope but again operator error most likely. REALLY like the simplicity of the set up Trevor posted but I'll give this a go some time soon and report on its maiden voyage.

Again thanks to Pat and every else who responded. Happy NEW YEAR!!!
