Hey. I'm building an OM acoustic, and last night, I joined the two sides by gluing the neck block and heel blocks, only to discover that I glued the neck block upside down with liberal titebond. oops_sign The heavier angled end for the tapered back is facing up toward the top and visa versa. Any tips on how to remove this well bonded neck block with out destroying the sides?

Many thanks

Use a household iron on the outside. The sides are thin and the heat will penetrate quickly to the joint. Do it as soon as possible because the glue joint is still somewhat fresh and will come apart more easily in the first day or two.

You will need a thin metal spatula and a heat source like a propane torch or something. Get the knife hot (not glowing red) and just work it into the glue joint. It shouldn't be that big of a deal. Just keep reheating the knife. You may also want to try getting a hot cloths iron and ironing the outside face of the block, where the thin side wood is, to loosen up the glue and then get in there with the spatula.

EDIT Barry beat me to it :D

I was thinking of the iron too, I think the hardest part is gonna be securing this flimsy thing while I'm trying to work on it. :P

Do you have a vice on your workbench? If so place the headblock in the vice with the sides hanging free. If you don't have a vice, just clamp a board to your bench so it hangs over the edge. Set the headblock on the board with the sides hanging free.

Well that wasn't so bad...I clamped a board over the sides and just kinda squished it to my bench with the neck block end hanging over and went at it with the iron and my olfa extended out that i kept re-heating by laying it under my silicon heating blanket. no issues. Thanks Barry, Tom and Mr. McKenna for the awesome tips, and incredibly quick responses!

A heat gun will separate it. Wave it back and forth, never letting anything get too hot. I use the low setting. The normal forces involved will pop it loose.
