I use spring steel slates. I bought them from one of the sponsors here but I'm not sure which one. The are probably in the 20 to 24 gauge range. They work fine. I'll mic them for you if that would be helpful. |

With my calipers they read about .021. Probably 24 or 25 gauge |

Hey Alex, once upon a time when I was looking in to this I thought Danforth Roofing Supply might be able to supply these pretty cheap, might be worth a phone call or email. They can custom cut if they have the material you're looking for. I use tempered spring steel at a thickness of .012" and they work great. |

After looking at online luthier suppliers and thinking twice about price plus shipping charges I found 24 gauge at Home Depot of all places for only $10. Now I buy all my guitar supplies including tonewood from HD

24 gauge what? I really doubt that HD carries spring steel. This is more likely galvanized steel flashing or aluminum. Neither of these will provide the same support as spring steel. |
